Folded Chair

This chair is the result of a design challenge: create a chair capable of supporting a 200 lb. adult using a single sheet of 4 x 8’ corrugated plastic and no additional fasteners, adhesives, or materials.

A Single Sheet

The chair can be cut as a single 4 x 8’ piece of corrugated plastic. The remaining material can be recycled.

Assembly Instructions

The cut piece is assembled in a few quick steps. It folds in on itself and has interlocking finger joints to secure its connection points. Two intersecting triangular pillars support the seat, and an angled seat back prevents the chair from tipping backwards.

Final Results

The assembled chair has a minimalist, origami-like appearance that is a direct result of its structural features.
