Isolation Under Observation Models
Year: 2018
Media: Plywood, wood veneer, wooden dowel, mylar
Skills: 3D digital modelling, laser cutting, hand craft
I created two physical models to illustrate this project: a rotating wall conceptual model and a whole-bulding 1:100 scalel model.
The rotating wall conceptual model demonstrates a kinetic wall that’s a key feature of the design. It separates the home’s interior "martian" space from the exterior "terrestrial" space. The unbroken wall creates an absolute physical separation between the spaces; there are no doors in the wall, so people and objects cannot pass through it. But variable visual separations between the spaces exist through the varying transparency of the wall’s panels.
The 1:100 scale model emphasizes the building’s unique features like the structure’s faceted roof - created perforating wood veneer with a laser cutter. It also illustrates how the dwelling integrates into its sloped site.
Visit the Isolation Under the Observation 3D Modelling & Rendering page for more information about the project and the Isolation Under Observation Animation page for a stop-motion animation of an early rotating wall conceptual model.
